SPRINGFIELD ARMORY, USA FOR FOX STUDIOS
A .45-70 (GOVT) SINGLE-SHOT SERVICE-RIFLE, MODEL '1884 TRAPDOOR', serial no. 209602,
circa 1885, with blued 32 1/2in. barrel, block and blade fore-sight, elevating adjustable long-range rear-sight, the breech-end numbered '148' and stamped 'FOX STUDIOS', colour-hardened trapdoor marked '1884' with drilled auxiliary holes, further holes drilled to the signed lockplate, walnut full-stock, iron furniture including two barrel-bands and iron under-barrel ramrod, weight approx. 9lb.
Other Notes: Fox Studios purchased many of these rifles for use during the filming of 'Waterloo', where additional dummy flintlock parts were attached to the breech loading mechanism. The drilled holes do not affect its use as a rifle.
